How to become a Voice Actor?

My story.

 

I'm Lucas Di Maria, a 23-year-old French voice actor who began voice acting quite recently. I knew I had a knack for imitating voices, so I figured I could use this talent to create voice characters and little ads on online service platforms and earn revenue from it.

In October 2021, I embarked on my voice acting journey with nothing more than a microphone. Although I had no theater background, I was confident in my ability to sell my voice, as I could do convincing accent imitations, storytelling, and inject emotion into my voice.

At that time, I was running out of money. My entrepreneurial career had been a rollercoaster of ups and downs, with my financial situation fluctuating between wealth and poverty. I desperately needed a stable income since I had just moved in with my girlfriend, and it was becoming increasingly challenging to develop innovative business ideas without a regular cash flow.

While sending another voice message to friends, acting like a funny storyteller for their schoolwork, I had an epiphany after they told meit was soundoing good! I could sell my voice on freelancing platforms and try to make money from it. I began researching voice acting, where to sell, how to set prices, and how to quickly edit my recordings.

​

I purchased an Amazon USB microphone, focused on voice acting for several days, and created demos from scratch. Within a few days, I started receiving my first voice acting orders!

In just two months, I reached my initial goal: earning $1,500 per month from my voice. Since then, I have multiplied that amount, making between $3,000 and $5,000 per month while working only 1 to 2 hours a day. This has allowed me to have plenty of time to develop my businesses further.

 

I have since invested time and a little money in creating a dubbing app and developing an innovative, healthy beverage company! (Because when you do voice overs, you want to save time, be comfortable, and... you drink a lot. So now, I'm addressing these two issues.)

Fast forward to today, I've transformed something I enjoy doing into a successful voice acting business, dubbing English videos into French & vice versa and providing my voice to brands for their international advertising campaigns. I now have a stable income and ample time to spend with friends, family, and focus on my other projects.

​

Currently, I have only four regular clients and a few one-time clients for advertising videos or Spotify audio ads. I work from my home studio or anywhere and I has been an incredible discovery.

I help existing voice actors to save a lot of time and efforts with the FreshDubs dubbing app and I created an online course to start selling your voice.
